Watermelon Man (Melvin Van Peebles, 1970)

Brilliant racial satire, I urge you to see this film now. Many of you know Van Peebles for Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song but before it came this, and it is a work of genius. Godfrey Cambridge delivers every line with unequaled comic genius and the script is one of the best comedy scripts I’ve seen in while - just packed with so much puns and jokes, it’s quite unbelievable. Once again, big kudos to the Blue Sunshine for bringing this to my attention, on great 16mm print once again.
